Vancouver is Awesome

A massive tapestry of Vancouver made out of recycled yarn from sweaters!

Bob Kronbauer

Sola Fiedler has spent the past few years working on a massive 11.6’ x 5.3’ tapestry of Vancouver which, in her words, is not only a piece of art but a “historical document”, as the city is constantly changing. Visually it’s a stunning piece but the process involved, which involves her using yarn from recycled sweaters, is equally as interesting.

In the video below Sola talks all about her process of making these types of tapestries and specifically about her Vancouver piece which will be on display on August 29th and 30th from 12:00-5:00pm at the Mainspace Community Gallery with access via the grunt gallery at 116-350 East 2nd Avenue.

Visit to learn all about this wonderful artist, her works, and this showing. She’s hoping to find a Vancouver buyer to keep it in the city, and it’s interesting to note that her previous work has found homes with Crown Zellerbach, Woodward’s, CIBC, CBC and Jimmy Pattison. Here’s hoping we see this work hanging somewhere in our city after August!
